Bartson Fabrics Environmental Policy
Bartson Fabrics Incorporated recognizes that we have a responsibility to limit the impact of our business activities on the environment. As a converter of upholstery textile fabric we have a relatively small environmental footprint as we do not engage in any manufacturing operations. Rather we have business relationships with a number of textile manufacturers located outside of the United States. While maintaining existing relationships with textile manufacturers and developing new relationships with textile manufacturers we have recently begun to enquire about the “green” products offered by these suppliers and the steps that these textile manufacturers are taking to reduce their environmental impact. Our goal is to promote business with those textile manufacturers who demonstrate a willingness and desire to operate in an environmentally sensitive manner.
In addition to promoting environmentally friendly textile manufacturers, Bartson Fabrics continues to take steps to reduce our impact on the environment. The policies that we have implemented include:
- Reusing original packaging for our shipments whenever possible – this includes plastic shipping bags, cardboard boxes, cardboard cores, and wooden shipping pallets.
- Using recyclable materials and products made from recycled materials for those shipments that require repackaging and for sample shipments - this includes plastic shipping bags, cardboard boxes, cardboard cores, and wooden shipping pallets.
- Promoting the use of email for interoffice communication, reports, etc. and using only recycled and/or reused paper for those items for which we require a hard copy.
- Giving our customers the option to receive all communications – i.e. purchase order confirmations, invoices, inventory & price notifications, etc. via email instead of by USPS or fax.
- Reducing our energy consumption by shutting down all nonessential electronic equipment at the close of business each day, lowering the thermostat in the fall and winter, raising the thermostat in the spring and summer, and shutting off lights in areas of our office and warehouse that are not occupied.
- Promoting the consolidation of shipments with freight lines like Old Dominion or YRC rather than individual piece shipments via UPS or FedEx.
